Hendrix Name Origin

The origin of the Hendrix name is subject of many Hendrix researchers; however, solid verifiable proof of the exact origin/location has not been established.

Some researchers suggest that the "Hendrix" surname stems from "Henry" which is a derivative of the early Germanic personal name, "Heiminrich", meaning "Home" and "ric" meaning "ruler, power".

Others indicates that "Hendrix" is a patronymic surname of Dutch and Low German origin, meaning "Son of Hendrixk".

Many Hendrix researchers think that all American lines of Hendrix (Hendricks, Hendrickson, Hendrys, etc.) originate from the line of Albertus Hendrickson and Aeltje Helchy Hendrickson (abt. 1600) of the Netherlands and their five sons and approximately 70 grandsons.

The children of Albertus and Aeltje (Helchy) Hendrickson:
  1. Elizabeth
  2. James Jacobus
  3. Margaret
  4. Johannes John
  5. Isabell Catherine
  6. Albertus
  7. Tobias
  8. Bridget
  9. Ann
  10. Catherine
In the late 2000's Family Tree DNA (ftDNA) had a group of Hendrix researchers testing Hendrix famly members in an attempt to prove or disprove that all Hendrix family descendants were in fact descendants of Albertus Hendrickson. DNA has yet to prove this theory.
