Hendrix-Whitfield-McCullar Family

Roger Phillip Hendrix

My maternal grandfather passed before I was born.
My paternal grandfather passed when I was 6 months old.
The only grandfather I knew was my great grandfather, William Alonzo "Lonzo" McCullar. My family line back to "Lonzo" is:

Person Relationship
Roger Phillip Hendrix (me)
Marie Faye (Whitfield) Hendrix (my mother)
Clara Angeline (McCullar) Whitfield (my maternal grandmother)
William Alonzo McCullar (my maternal great grandfather)

My 2nd grandfather, William Thomas Breckenridge McCullar, was born in 1856, in Louisiana. He married Sarah A. Spicer, March 14, 1877, in Mount Ida, Montgomery County, Arkansas. William Thomas passed in Bokoshe, Oklahoma in 1938. Sarah passed away in Bokoshe, Oklahoma in 1927.  Both are buried in  the Old Bokoshe Memorial Cemetery. They had nine (9) children:

A Memory
Roger Phillip Hendrix

The most memorable thing I remember about Grandpa "Lonzo" was a fishing trip that he went on with my dad and some others. I was allowed to go along. We were on a river, not sure if it was the Poteau River below Wister Lake or another; however, we had set out trot lines. Sometime during the night we went to run the lines and Grandpa Lonzo was pulling the lines up to check them.

On one of the lines he announced that we had something big and was trying to be careful pulling it up. As it turned out the big thing was an alligator gar. Somehow this big gar managed to bite Grandpa on the arm. Needless to say, the arm was a bloody mess. It got very sore and as a result Grandpa did not help run any more of the trot lines on this fishing trip.
