Appleton History

The History of Appleton is important because the involvement of several descendants of James & Matilda Hendrix lived in Giles & Lawrence Counties in and around Appleton.

The book, On the Banks of Sugar Creek, was compiled and published in July 2003, by Martha Sue (Hendrix) Davis and Linda Jo (Hendrix) Dean. This book has an section on the early Appleton town and the people that lived in and around the town. There are many references to the Hendrix family starting with James and Matilda Hendrix and including many of their children and their children's families.

Unfortunately, this book is out of print and finding a copy to read and review can be difficult.

Roger Phillip Hendrix is very thankful to his cousin, Harold Edward (Ed) Hendrix, for loaning Roger his book to read and review. It was from this book that the information for the Appleton History pages were excerpted.

The information has been edited and/or modified to improve readability and formatting. The black and white photos, unless otherwise stated, are excerpts from the book.

The color photos were taken and provided by Roger P. Hendrix

References to Hendrix family members have been highlighted in the associated pages.
