James and Matilda Hendrix
Page under construction.
Somewhere in the world, possibly overseas in Scotland, Ireland, the British Isles, or in the United States (between New York and Kentucky), a Scottish man chose an Irish woman as his bride. They had at least one son, born in 1810, in Kentucky. They named him, James Hendrix. Census records verify James' birth information. James Hendrix is also listed as James Hendricks in other census records between 1840 and 1880.
Elsewhere in the world, possibly overseas in France, Scotland, the British Isles, or in the United States (between New York and Indiana), a French man chose to marry a Scottish woman. They had at least one daughter, born in 1812, in Indiana. They named her Matilda (possibly Matilda Elizabeth). We do not know her maiden name. Census records verify Matilda's birth information.
Notice that James and Matilda both had parents born in Scotland. Is it possible that James' father knew Matilda's mother before arriving in the United States? Could this fact be the reason that both families settled close to each other along the Indiana and Kentucky borders? Could the parents have been instrumental in setting up the marriage of James and Matilda?
There is a possibility that James was named Samuel James. This is based on the fact that his son, James V. Hendrix, named his first son, Samuel James Hendrix, and this son, Samuel James Hendrix, named one of his sons, Samuel Elijah Hendrix.
There is a possibility that Matilda was named Matilda Elizabeth. This is based on the fact that her son, James V. Hendrix, named his first daughter, Matilda Elizabeth. Also, James and Matilda named their youngest daughter, born in 1862, Matilda Elizabeth.
Very little is known about James and Matilda prior to their moving to Giles County, Tennessee.
