Tribute

to
Hortense (Miller) Howard

June 5, 1966

Dear Muller, Mueller, Miller descendants:

(The spelling may be different, the relationship remains the same).

The lady shown in this picture is very important; however, a modest person, and only through my insistence has she consented to place her picture in the book. I felt that though some of us have not had the privilege of meeting her, we most certainly and probably have corresponded with her, and having her picture placed here we would see her in her entirety.

By now you must realize the person is HORTENSE MILLER HOWARD. She is solely responsible for this precise history of our Miller ancestors.

Words cannot express my personal gratitude to her. She is very dear and important to me, for several years ago I began to wonder about our ancestry, and began making inquiries and ended up at a blank wall.

Finally one of my inquiries paid off, as I received the sweetest letter from this lady relative in San Antonio, Texas, who had already begun work on the Miller family tree.

Many letters later, and several visits convinced me that here was a lady of bountiful energy. There is no doubt in my mind that I would never have been able to complete the research due to other commitments such as rearing my young family.

I know each of you will join me in thanking her, because without the untold hours she has spent gathering this information, we would never have had such a thorough history of our ancestry.

Money cannot repay her for all that she has done but I know gathering the complete history, the pleasure she has derived in confirming the fact that perhaps never renown, never wealthy, the Miller name has always carried with it: Honesty, Respectability and Loyalty, she has been repaid a thousand times over.

Let us in this small way thank her, and cherish with gratitude this book containing our heritage.

Joy Miller Talbert
